So I've had this guy for a while, and I figured I should introduce him to Dev~
This is my original character for Axis Powers Hetalia: Wales! I did a lot of research for him, and I've been roleplaying him on tumblr for a while. Here's my headcanon bit for him:
Llywelyn Kirkland
- Two pets; a lamb named Adwen and a Welsh dragon named Cadwgan.
- Has a passion for singing and rugby.
- Birthday- March 1st; Saint David's Day
- Curl represents the Snowdonia (Eryri) mountains, and the dot represents the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Mon)
Like the other Kirkland brothers, Wales grew up on his own, fairly wild and doing his own thing. While he developed as a young, wild nation, he also developed a strong connection to the other Celtic nations- his older brothers. He also managed to build up a strong sea- and agriculturally based economy.
However, Wales soon became one of many of Rome’s conquests, and remained that way for a very long time. During that time he was used purely for mining purposes, which drained him almost entirely and nearly crushed his spirits and hopes to become independent once again. Once Roman rule did collapse, Wales struggled to gain back his strength, continuously being overrun by various Germanics, soon being divided into numerous kingdoms by those very invaders.
Wales soon made peace with these Germanics and began to grow strong once more thanks to the fertile land and despite the Viking invasions on Anglesey.
As England began to develop as a nation as well, Wales immediately hit it off with a rocky relationship, just as it happened with the other Kirklands. Territory was constantly being fought over, although Wales did manage to keep his independence for quite some time. There was one event that Wales will never forget, however, and that same event has triggered and will continue to fuel his utter hatred towards England.
During a period of particularly rough times involving the Magna Carta and a military defeat, the last free prince of Wales was forced to swear fealty to England. Llywelyn was forced to watch as the peace from the treaty slowly crumbled and the last prince was then beheaded, his head being mounted on a spear to be carried through London. From that point on, his hatred for England simmered, made only worse when he was forced to join the United Kingdom as one of his younger brother’s principalities.
Because of his joint relationship with England, Llywelyn became directly influenced by anything that happened to Arthur. The Industrial Revolution lead to his economy shying away from agriculture and becoming more focused on the few industrial plants located in his country, and the focus on mining was brought back in North Wales as well.
Overall, Llywelyn is a fairly laid back nation that keeps to himself and his brothers. It’s difficult for him to branch out to other nations due to what happened with England, however, he is willing to try on occasion. Rather than hanging out or spending time at other nations’ houses, he’d rather be tending his sheep, singing, or playing rugby. His language of preference is Welsh, particularly when speaking to England, just to piss him off. He has a wicked temper, but it’s difficult to trigger.
Even though he does hold an intense grudge against England, the many years he spent as a part of the United Kingdom has lead him to tolerate and even act friendly around him, his temper having been curbed significantly over the years.
Despite common stereotype, Llywelyn does not have any sort of sexual relationship with sheep.
When it comes to any sort of romantically based relationships or feelings, Llywelyn tends to be a bit oblivious. He’s never been romantically involved with anyone due to his ties with England for so long, and so whatever ability he once had to tell feelings of love, lust, or attraction pretty much dissipated. He still feels them, but he can’t recognize them for what they are, and he’s completely and totally oblivious to even the most painful, obvious flirting. It takes an outright confession for him to realize things.
